At Zympl, we recently partnered with Illuminate Media to create a powerful brand film for Calvary Homes, a Christian retirement community in Lancaster, PA. "A Place and A Promise" supports their annual fundraising banquet—an event crucial for residents whose care costs exceed their resources.
The Story Behind the Story
When Calvary Homes approached us, we saw an opportunity to go beyond a typical promotional video. Through our research-based approach, we immersed ourselves in their community, connecting with residents, staff, and families to understand the true impact of this special place.
The resulting narrative centers on dignity in aging and the power of community, showcasing how Calvary Homes creates an environment where seniors are valued and supported through every stage.
Finding Focus in Simplicity
Our initial plan included multiple residents, but we discovered the story was strongest when focused on a single resident's journey. This shift allowed us to create a more intimate and emotionally resonant film. Rather than presenting several shorter stories, we crafted a deeper narrative that audiences could truly connect with—proving that sometimes less truly is more.
Resourceful Production Approach
We created a high-quality film while respecting the nonprofit's budget by using in-house gear and a minimal crew. This lean approach not only reduced costs but also helped us maintain an unobtrusive presence, capturing more authentic moments.
